Today’s Holy Nougat is a little reminder that things are not always as they seem. Let’s imbibe
“The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but, that he said, I am King of the Jews.” John 19:21 ASV
Have you ever felt the desire to rewrite the script? To tell others the true story about an incident, or at least your perspective? How crushing was it to have those rights ignored? I am sure it hurt a bit eh? Now multiply those to begin to capture the weight of the religious right’s upset at Jesus’s nomenclature as ‘King of the Jews’! For that designation not only made him Public Enemy #1 to Rome; but it also implied that Jesus’s ‘subjects’ were dissidents, possible insurgents; ready to overthrow the Empire. And that provided grounds for persecution.
There was also the fact that as a group, the chief priests did not like Jesus. His teaching and miraculous acts did not align to the tenets of their faith. Just as critically, Jesus’s work drew into question their spiritual gifts and authority, as the chief priests didn’t operate with spiritual gifts.
So, should changing the details be in your power, would you comply with the chief priests’ request? When we desire the script to be rewritten; what’s our purpose and should we be taken seriously?
Just because someone makes a request which seems legitimate; it may not be for the best. Check their motive and your own. Pray. Then execute under the guidance of God’s Spirit.
