Karibu! Greetings from the land of the Masai and Mt Kilimanjaro! For the next few days, a group of us are gathered to think about how we conduct the mission to which God had assigned us. Have you ever thought about your mission? Here’s today’s Holy Nougat
Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts. Malachi 3:1 KJV
A messenger is normally sent on an errand to communicate or share the thoughts and wishes of another in that person’s absence. This messenger was tasked with ensuring that everything was in place for the sovereign’s visit. One aspect of that would be literally going around and advising the empire to be in readiness to receive their Lord. History had revealed that the messenger referred to was John the Baptist.
However, in the course of Christian belief and history; we note that Christ has died, Christ is risen, and that Christ will come again. We have been tasked with a similar assignment to John the Baptist. And, we are also uncertain about the exact date of Christ’s return.
Each of us has been commissioned as believers to tell the world that our sovereign is coming. As Christ’s messengers or emissaries, it is important that we represent Christ in a manner which reflects His vision of leadership. Isaiah provides us with a sense of Christ’s mission and purpose (9:6) through counselling and peace making.
Do we believe that Jesus Christ is returning? How are we preparing the world for His return? Do we believe the message of peace that we have been commissioned to share? What manner of counsel do we represent? In what ways do we reflect Christ’s vision of peace-making? With whom have we shared the news of Christ’s return?
