What’s your favorite television show? I’m not big on TV per se, but I must confess that I really Really REALLY Love Undercover Boss. I especially love when the bosses offer the staff incentives at the Moment of Truth. Sometimes I find myself wishing that I could be given some of those end of show perks. And every, I mean EVERY SINGLE TIME, I’m struck by the fact that operatively each of us as Christians is living out our own version of Undercover Boss.
Like, seriously.
What would you differently in Life if you KNEW that
A. You were representing God’s brand
B. Your Boss was going to self-reveal at some point during your employment season?
Something to savor as we ruminate on today’s Holy Nougat™
I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’. John 1:33 NLT
So, imagine John minding his own business, when he’s told that he gets the chance to meet the Boss with whom he’s been interacting for a while!
Major stress!
What if he “drowned” the Boss, what if the Boss wasn’t pleased with his service? What if, what if, WHAT IF? Is it any wonder he later insisted that he wasn’t worthy to even tie Jesus’ shoe laces?
But what about when The Boss is speaking to you and me? What if God opts to self-reveal to us? Would we be ready for an upfront and personal, in our face Tete-a-tete with our not so Undercover Boss?
Would we be caught slacking on the job? Really? Why/not? In what areas might we need a bit of personal development right now? Could it be that our Boss is actually equipping or retooling us right now? Where would we be excellent employees and be worthy of commendation? (Let’s be aware that there’s something that we’re doing well at and our Boss is inordinately proud of us.)
Lord, as we perform the tasks You’ve placed in our lives, may we see Your Spirit descend as Your glory is revealed. Help us to be open to the personal (spiritual) development which You’ve made us undergo so that we represent Your brand effectively. Open our eyes to opportunities to be Your brand ambassadors we pray, in Jesus’s name Amen
