Nougat 7

Published on

Hello

It’s an admonition against spiritual amnesia as well as misplaced pride. It’s a reminder that works demonstrates that we have heard and are applying God’s Word. It’s an exhortation to live our God relationship with integrity and total honesty. It’s a personal Word, for self examination. It’s a collective Word to prevent judgements attitudes. Today’s Holy Nougat is a painful chew at times; but definitely a Word to the wise.

“But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.” James‬ ‭1:22‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

Many of us will have the initial reaction that we DO live the Word without artifice, and we are probably right. Yet, if we’re honest, we might find we get a check in our spirits. And, if we attend to the check we just might recall our Jonah moments, when we were found asleep in the storm, trying to get to Tarshish instead of Nineveh. We might even be there right now.

But what if someone else’s faith journey is dependent on our integrity? Until Jonah mentioned his faith, the men had no personal knowledge of God’s saving grace to their kind. As in non-Jews. Until we LIVE our beliefs, other are left bereft of the saving knowledge of the God Who created us and loves us eternally.

Whether in public or the private sphere, may we endeavor to live our faith, so others WILL glorify God our Savior.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
