Nougat 7

Having journeyed with the prophets it is my hope that we feel more aware of what signs precede Jesus’ return. Today’s Holy Nougat invites us to reflect on what we can do as we await that glorious day.

“I assure you that whoever believes in me will do the works that I do. They will do even greater works than these because I am going to the Father.” ‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭12‬ ‭CEB‬‬

Believe and Do

Are you familiar with the phrase ‘seeing is believing’? I want to turn it around a little, and suggest that for us as believers in Jesus Believing means Seeing. That is, when we believe, others ought to see the Light of Jesus Christ in us. That’s why Jesus says in the Sermon on the Mount, Let Your light shine so others may see your Good Works [in God’s Power], and glorify Your Father in Heaven. It’s all about God’s glory, not ours.

The work that we do then ought to testify of our belief. And that includes our every day activities, not just when we are ‘officially’ on duty for Jesus. Because, the truth is, we are Always On Duty. Our faith is not like the life of Superman aka Clarke Kent. We don’t always have the luxury of finding a telephone booth to change into, it’s supposed to be on display at all times so that the world may also believe.

It’s a serious ask, but it’s not impossible. Jesus promises that our belief affords us the capacity to be/do like Him. That’s the anointing we each received from God’s Spirit the moment we accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives. We might not have tapped into The Power, but our ignoring Jesus gift of God’s Spirit does not negate the gift. Nor does ignorance nullify Jesus’ promises.

You might ask yourself, ‘what did Jesus do that I will be able to do?’ I certainly ask myself from time to time. It is a valid ask. For if we know what Jesus did, we can do what Jesus did and more. So we know that Jesus

Fed multitudes

Taught the unfiltered, undiluted Word of God

Discipled others

Prioritized Children

Lived grace and forgiveness

Healed the physically sick

. Straightened lame bodies

. Opened blocked ears

. Placed sight in unseeing eyes

. Straightened lame/withered hands

. Restored the paralyzed

Spoke life into dead situations

: Stopped menstrual bleeding/obstetric fistula

: Raised dead folks (Lazarus, the widow’s son, Jairus’ daughter, etc)

He commanded nature

~ Calmed raging winds and seas

~ Condemned a non-fruitful tree

~ Walked on water

~ Transformed water into wine

Walked through buildings

Spoke money into a fish’ mouth

Prayed us into salvation

Prophesied and spoke into lives

Was cruelly abused and killed on our behalf

Lives with God in Heaven

Negotiates for us even now with God…

Sent God’s Spirit to ensure that we can continue what He started

Assured us that we can do all He modeled.

That’s God’s Promise.

We can plan on that. It’s safer than money in the bank (especially in these times). Jesus told us and we know that He spoke for God.

Siblings, almost all the things I identified lay within us to do as believers. I believe that it’s time for us to begin/continue to manifest these in powerful ways. Have we asked which gift is needed for our current context.

The harvest is plenty. Will we laborers be found on duty?

May all we seek be found in Christ
