Hello

Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.

… Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother stored all these things in her heart.” Luke 2:19, 51 NLT

Not once, but twice in the early birth narratives of Jesus we are told that Mary creates a Kodak moment or screenshots an event among her mental keepsakes. It must have been a bit of a challenge, to store the experience rather than go sharing with everyone in sight. But Mary was filled with the conviction that some things required discretion, even when the whole ‘world’ (or the village at least) was talking about it.

Can you imagine if this were to happen nowadays – all Mary’s ‘close friends’ and ‘family members’ providing the ‘exclusive’ on Jesus’ paternity, Mary’s first kiss, the angelic (UFO) visitation and even some extra details not included even in extra-biblical literature! For the way of humanity, regardless of gender, tends toward gossip and innuendo and being ‘in the know’. Yet Mary, and a handful of us are genuinely gifted with keeping confidences.

And for those of us who are still struggling to keeping confidences, this would be a good opportunity to invite God’s assistance. We begin with a simple prayer of Repentance, followed by the resolve to overcome the madness. It might ever involve praying each time we are tempted to gossip.

Whatever it does entail, we know that God’s desire is for us is that we live in integrity.

May God’s promises fill and sustain as we live in Christ in all we do, say and think.

Good morning

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
