Nougat 6

Good morning dear

I pray your day is going well. One of the many new year’s traditions in the Caribbean is to begin the year in church. I tell you, it was always something to see the folks trickling in at about 1/4 to midnight, some very obviously coming from a dance or party. We always welcomed them, and very few preachers succumbed to the temptation to shift focus to accuse them. They were probably familiar with today’s Holy Nougat

“The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” Lamentations‬ ‭3:22-23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God’s love is indeed faithful. And several of us (maybe all) have at least one ‘new year’s eve’ testimony; of experiencing God’s welcoming love when we turned up seeking forgiveness or grace at the last moment. Because that’s the kind of love God gives.

The prophet mentions another special attribute of God’s love – it’s never stale. We are guaranteed a fresh outpouring of God’s love at 00:00:01 am daily. A new lease on life, beautifully packaged in a brand new day. And the gift offers us creative possibilities – so many things we can do!

How do we celebrate this particular gift from God? Do we begin with thanksgiving and a request for wisdom and vision? Or do we just plunge right ahead into our day without even noticing God?

And what about the other tangible gifts we receive from God; do we remember to count those blessings, especially on those days when naught else seems good? My dears, sometimes we have to stop in our tracks and just love on God in return. We lift our hearts by reminding ourselves of how Lovely God is, and how amazing it is to receive the many blessings. It’s like Christmas every day, but we sometimes take those precious gifts for granted.

I want to encourage us this day to begin to count our blessings, including the air we breathe despite living in a Covid-19 congested world.
