As we nibble on today’s Holy Nougat, let’s allow it to nourish us for the new week.
“Now, may the God of peace himself cause you to be completely dedicated to him; and may your spirit, soul, and body be kept intact and blameless at our Lord Jesus Christ’s coming.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23 CEB
Intact
This is the ultimate blessing and prayer for peace. Just imagine hearing your spiritual leader-mentor praying peace of mind, spiritual and financial blessings and healing all in one, and it’s close to the essence of this benediction. For, in this blessing, having already speaking God’s peace, Paul prays the Thessalonians will be kept untainted in all the ways that mattered:- body, spirit, and soul.
Given that that’s the Trinitarian peace formula, praying for the holistic preservation of each member is truly a special blessing. In so doing, Paul prays for their physical well-being, their peace of mind and for their inner core to be so aligned with God’s that they would be wholly blameless when Christ returned. Of course, no one knew for certain when Christ would return. What they did know was that there’s many a slip between the cup and the lip, and any temptation could prove to be that one thing that changed their spiritual status.
Given John’s vision of the seven churches in the end times, we may hear a prayer that the Thessalonians are so preserved, that they become like the church In Philadelphia, faithful and true, despite the circumstances. They are the ones to whom God’s Spirit promised
“Because you kept my command to endure, I will keep you safe through the time of testing that is about to come over the whole world, to test those who live on earth.” Revelation 3:10 CEB
That is my prayer for each of us dear siblings, that we are found intact at Christ’s return. May we all be found faithful, well preserved in all situations of testing
