What does your confidence in God Look like? Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“But I will call on God, and the Lord will rescue me.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭55‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I remember once my high school teacher leading morning devotion, saying quite frankly, ’if you know you can’t confidently say this prayer please do not pray.’ The wording she used is a little fuzzy, but the message remains. Some things are rituals for those who are in Christ Jesus, for we connect with them differently.

Our Nougat for example, comes with the assurance that God can and will come through. It’s forged in the flames of trials and testing (by Massah and Meribah ie testing and bitter waters); an encounter with God that dislocates a hip but transforms from the inside out (see Genesis 32:25). It is conviction in the face opposition that God is, and thus it is well.

It’s also the Hebrew young men’s story: the affirmation that God can; and whether or not God wills, we believe. This nougat is not fluff and fairy tales. It recognizes God’s sovereignty – that God decides the fate of humanity – and God’s grace to allow us co-creating privileges, sometimes to the point of us abusing it. We speak of God’s might to do as well as God’s power to refrain from doing, knowing that even in the disappointment All things work together for good for us (Theophilus – lover of God), the called out ones, *in keeping with God’s plans* (see Romans 8:38).

So what does rescue look like? It is all relative to God’s plan. It may be the 4th man in the furnace, resurrection of one’s only son, life in the temple, sitting at Jesus’ feet, healing of leprosy, even imprisonment or death. Imprisonment led to the salvation of a guard, siege on Jericho led to the genealogy of Jesus, and His death on a cross rescues us all from eternal damnation. It is a matter of purpose and perspective.

So what does our confidence in God’s rescue look like today?
