Nougat 5

If you had one wish that was guaranteed to become reality, what would it be? Not pipe dreams now, but realizable wishes. And, with the guarantee of it being granted, what would you do to help it become a reality? Today’s Holy Nougat is about a wish, one desire that could be our own, should we wish to claim it.

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭27‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Getting That One Thing

Now that David has rekindled that desire in us, we ought to think about what it takes to move from desire to fact. For, in our own strength and status, it is impossible. But that’s where Jesus Christ comes in. Remember that life-transforming conversation with Nicodemus, the Jewish rabbi? In that John 3 conversation Jesus made it abundantly clear that even for Jews by birth, there was need for personal spiritual birth. As the Pauline writer puts it – ‘All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory’ (see Romans 3:23).

Yes dear siblings, we humans all need help to overcome our sinful nature. And that’s the Hope we have in Christ Jesus. For, He knew His assignment and was clear about His mandate: Love for us all, to the point of offering Himself as security for our salvation. Jesus articulated as much to Nicodemus, in the well loved scripture, For God so loved you and me that God sent Jesus the Son of God to earth as human to do the necessaries so that on believing, our access to Heaven and eternity (Nicqi’s paraphrasing).

That’s a very big deal!

And since Jesus has fulfilled His part in proving that dreams can become a reality; we have reasons to Hope. We were not literally and physically there when these were happening, but our spirit bears witness with God’s Spirit that this is true. So, armed with our options, we can act in Hope, choose to believe what our hearts and spirits know, thanking God for the life-transforming gift of Jesus Christ. Then, led by God’s Spirit, we share the news with others in Word and deed, as we prepare for His return.

Hopeful? So am I.
