It is the story of many of us. We meet Christ; establish a relationship and invite God to work through us. In fact, we may even have asked that we walk on water; that is – we invite God to perform miracles through us. All goes swimmingly, until … BAM there’s some unexpected pushback. What to do? Especially when the cheerleaders have up and disappeared. We look around and realize that we are all alone.
Been there?
Peter was. And the wind was heavy. The pressure round about him was mounting, not receding. He was alone on water and increasingly panicked. Peter was a fisherman; but in those days it is believed that fishermen were not swimmers. Furthermore, the waves were choppy and – had the technology been available – a small craft warning would have been issued.
What to do, especially when death seems imminent?
We might be sinking. Fast. But if we are still alive, it’s not too late to cry out to our eternal Lifeline Jesus Christ. He’s got our backs. And He cares about our welfare, seriously. Crying out costs nothing at all (except maybe our pride).
Now here’s the challenge; having been rescued by Jesus Christ that one time, do we trust God enough to walk on water ever again?
