Giving back to God has long been a challenge for many of us. I cannot speak for persons then; but there are those who fail to see the value in giving to God. But sometimes giving to God is more than cash offer, it’s a matter of the heart. We have to determine who God is and what God means to us personally. It is personal matter, for these days, the temple God wishes to reside in is our body!
We ruin the temple by our disregard for God’s requirements for the care of our temples and also by our lack of love for the temple that God has blessed us with – we’re too tall/short; fat/skinny; long/short haired etc. These attitudes suggest that God made mistakes and so we’re redesigning God’s masterpiece. Or we simply do as we please, to hell with the consequences!
Perhaps today we are being chastened for our priority system. The sanctuary and the temple edifice are in disrepair while we fritter away our funds, our time, our treasure, investing in an altar of our own making – sheer idolatry! And yet we expect our True and Living God to answer our prayers and support our idols. What arrogance!
Might I encourage us to earn determine whether God is our priority and act accordingly. Y
