Today’s reflection. . . May 4
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” Is 52:7
In the midst of freedom talk comes the description of the messenger. And yet, not quite a description either.
More like praise for the critical attribute of the messenger, his feet. Like Puma or Nike fishing over Usain Bolt’s feet (which they do, sort of) because they are totally aware of the value of his gift.
For, back in the day, that was the core value of the fastest man (and perhaps the real reason for the Olympics). Messages were sent long distances via runners who were undaunted by weather conditions. Those feet were likely to be cracked, chapped, stink or plain nasty.
But to the one who heard release from captivity, it would be worthwhile.
As God’s emissaries, we to are called to travel through inclement spiritual weather with the good news (aks gospel) of release for those bound in Zion.
From mountaintop to valley floor, we are called to proclaim release to Zion. (Is 61:1-3)
How do our feet appear?
Have the captives heard the good news?
Lord, may we be ready to share your news, from mountaintop to valley low, that you return and release is at hand. Embolden us and strengthen our feet we pray, in Jesus’s name. Amen
