Nougat 4

We continue to reflect on spiritual hunger with today’s Holy Nougat

““Come and see,” he said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day.” ‭‭John‬ ‭1:39‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Their mentor saw Jesus and simply stated that Jesus was the Lamb of God. That’s all it took. It was as if they were waiting for that moment all their lives. They just upped and followed Jesus. But unlike Zacchaeus, who – uncertain of his welcome – climbed up into the sycamore tree; these two followers of John simply walked up to Jesus and pledged allegiance to Him. They called him ‘rabbi’, which we know now as a mark of respect; but was also a term used by apprentice to their teacher-mentor.

And, in further contrast to the Zacchaeus-Jesus scenario; but with perhaps equal desire to encounter Jesus; they asked Him where He stayed. The ironic thing was: Jesus took them there. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed that before. This may actually have been the only mention of where Jesus stayed although the actual venue is not named.

They probably were not interested in physical food. But it is evident that they intended to absorb all they could. One of those men was Andrew, and when they finally left Jesus’ company, he would not keep the news to himself. He told his brother Simon. The rest, as we’ve read, is History.

What happens when we spend quality time with Jesus? Are we mentored? Do we invite others to experience the Christ we’ve met? Do we share our experience? How hungry are we for the Word to dwell within us? Are we following others and their teaching, or are we seeking Christ for ourselves?

May Christ be our evening guest every day for the rest of our lives.
