This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. Have you ever been to Patmos? I have. That space where the world recedes and its a little bit reality show (Spiritually Naked and Afraid) and a little bit of annoyance because Patmos wasn’t my choice of spaces to be.
Its danger becomes even more distressing when others don’t get it. That exile is part of God’s plan. Or worse yet, you yourself don’t get God’s plan for you on Patmos.
What did you do then? In the middle of your exile which feels more like a deserted island rather than God’s rendezvous point? Complain? Sing? Cry out to God? Get upset when comparing yourself and your situation with others? Flagellate yourself by thinking you are the worst of sinners? Perhaps all of those at some point or another during your sojourn?
You are NOT ALONE.
Others have been to Patmos before, and others will go after. Furthermore, remenber that it was on Patmos that John received that powerful vision from God about future events. Could it be that this season of persecution and exile is actually prostration for a powerfully wonderful encounter with God (Lord could we try for a different type of rendezvous please)? Is it even remotely feasible that God has been trying to get your attention for a mission which only YOU can accomplish?
