Nougat 31

Hi

Today’s Holy Nougat may require a shift in lifestyle and fitness routines for some of us.

“So refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy. But remember that youth, with a whole life before you, is meaningless.”

Ecclesiastes 11:10 NLT

Recently, I spoke with someone who lamented the fact that church workers are often guilty of neglecting their physical and mental health to their own detriment. Of course, this is not exclusive to church workers. However, one might expect that we are more intentional about self-care because of our profession. Or one might think that our roles keep us so attuned and connected to God that we automatically care for our ‘temples’. Erm … we are often guilty of focusing on other issues except our own health and wellbeing.

This admonition is for each of us; church workers or not. With the new trends in fitness; one might be inclined to believe that keeping fit is easy. And it is. Always has been. Provided we have the get up and go for it. Let’s keep it real – how many of us have purchased exercise equipment to enhance our fitness; and it remains virtually unused? Or started fitness routines and gave up long before it could become a habit? Or set lofty health goals and gave up at the first sign of failure or because we overextended ourselves? Hmm hm.

Been there; done that.

But what if we increased the active aspect of our routines just a little bit. Like opting to walk around our house, school or office premises during the day? Or, opting for a prayer walk at least once a week? The joy of the prayer walk is that we can also rid our hearts and minds of stuff that would normally qualify as a worry. (That’s really slick huh!)

Because God really does want us successful – body, mind and spirits. And while a problem shared may be a problem solved in the old adage; a problem/burden handed (truly given to God) is a worry reduced or removed.

Awesomeness!

And that’s two recommendations covered in one go. Hmmn hmmm. (Yup. Really slick)

So regardless of our ages or our professional status or our spiritual maturity; let’s commit to more exercise and prayer walks (if you are wheelchair bound, prayer wheeling is just as powerful or even better!). With God as our coach we can do it.

Us church workers; enough is enough; we will no longer get bogged into the stresses of work without ensuring we also top up on our spiritual strength. If you’re not a church worker, you are welcome to join us too.

May our weekend be charged with good health. Good morning

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
