Nougat 31

Published on

Babies are interesting people. They have a sense of who they own, and an even clearer sense of what they expect from each person they own. Recently, I read of someone who cracked the global code of baby cries, as it is believed that cries have different meanings. While I can’t say that I’m versed with the various sounds, parents usually have the gift. And, when their baby cries out, they know how to respond.

Did you ever consider that that’s how God responds to each of us? I’ve thought about it before, but I need a reminder ever so often. With the reminder, I’m even more inclined to cry out to God. Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.

Psalms 34:15 NIV

[15] The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;

Attentive God

The idea that God knows each of us individually sometimes feels like wishful thinking. God know each of us individually, our weaknesses, strengths, and even our frustrations. Being a good parent, God recognises each of our cries and has a personalised response to each need and cry.

Self-Check

Does this reminder of God’s attentiveness affect how we relate to God?

Deeper Dive

It is worth noting that this promised attention is reserved for those who are righteous. But we need not get it twisted, though righteousness is about just, or right behaviour, we who are in Christ are well aware that our behaviour is of no value if it isn’t of God. So we might be surprised to see who God deems righteous.

Ultimately, what we hear once again is that God is fully attuned to us, especially when we are distressed. It doesn’t mean God will respond as we dictate. But it surely means God has got us covered.

So what is it that we need to cry out to God for today? Just as a parent watches the child and sometimes awaits the child’s cry, so it is with God. When we do cry, it is a sure and certain game-changer. That’s cause for praise.

Prayer Point

Lord help us remember that You’re attuned to our needs, and respond to our cries. May we, like babies, rest secure in the knowledge that You’re attentive to us, and will respond to our cries. Hear us oh Lord, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen

May all we seek be found in Christ
