Nougat 31

Please receive today’s Holy Nougat

“His disciples didn’t understand at the time that this was a fulfillment of prophecy. But after Jesus entered into his glory, they remembered what had happened and realized that these things had been written about him.” ‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

How hard it is for many of us to grasp prophecy, including biblical prophecy of the Messiah. And in one sense it’s extremely understandable: we usually are trying to ‘get it’ in intellectual terms and often with the wrong motives. It then becomes vitally important to remember the crucial lesson given to Nicodemus and the woman at the well. We must apply our spirits to access and understand the things of God’s Spirit. For God, and by nature Jesus, IS God’s Spirit, and thus understood better by that part of our nature.

But we’re neither monochromatic nor one dimensional beings. And the body which houses our spirit (soul), operates with an intellect that processes earthly and spiritual information for decisions and responses while here. And so, that part of us needs/wants/desires to make ‘sense’ of what happens around us.

Additionally, the disciples operated with some of the facts (like seeing through the glass darkly,eh). Jesus had not yet died, and their human experience of kings, war and death was nothing like what Jesus did. And like all humans, they processed what was before them, and to their credit they connected the dots afterwards.

I believe the disciples failed to notice the exact lesson mentioned earlier: Jesus in His divinity must always be understood in the spiritual. Hence, at each occasion that Jesus spoke or acted, there was need to grasp the spiritual context. Therefore when we relate to Jesus post-resurrection we relate to Jesus being wholly conscious that we are connecting with God. And we have the benefit of both fulfillment of Scripture AND God’s Spirit to help us process. I pray we are open to God’s Spirit as we discern the times and seasons.
