Hello

Recently I’ve been thinking about intimacy; in particular intimacy with God and what that looks like. How do you view intimacy with God, especially as it relates to the current relationship you share with your Lord?

Perhaps today’s Holy Nougat™ will help put things in perspective

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

Proverbs 3:5 NLT

You see Lord,

That’s the clincher right there. I love You, I’m faithful to You with most things, but Trust … That’s a tough one. I’ll glibly say I Trust in God to the average passer-by; and if asked in church, I’ll wholeheartedly say I Trust You. But truly, You and I both know that’s really just words on a page. For when it comes to the test, and yes I recognize that trust is tested, I don’t ALWAYS lean on You.

Sometimes I rely on my own ‘intuition’, I might research the issue, even discreetly organize an opinion poll, but consult with You … erm oftentimes, I just plain forget to check in with You. In some other cases, I go DIRECTLY to my sources – friends, family, colleagues, even those whom I KNOW are not vested in my best interests; yet I fail to attend to You!

How do You keep Yourself from blanking me Lord? How do You cope with the hurt my apparent lack of Trust must generate? It’s not that I want to hurt You – as a matter of fact, I don’t want to hurt anyone else. And that’s the catch right there, isn’t it Lord? For, in seeking alternate counsel, I’m placing that counsel ABOVE Yours. Idolatry in the making. Just like that.

Ironically, when troubles come – as they invariably do, especially when I didn’t check in with You initially – I run to You. I Trust You then! I KNOW You will fix my boo-boos; and I hope that I don’t get punished for having done my own thing previously.

But I KNOW You’d rather I came to You initially. That I Trust You with all my everythings and with ALL my heart! And I really would love to move from lip service to actuality. I recognize that I can’t do that on my own tho.

Please, please, PLEASE forgive me for the countless times I discounted You, didn’t take Your counsel, or even consult with You. I truly pray this is the start of a new way of being with you.

So Jesus, help me practice with the little things. Daily. And prompt me with the big things. Daily. And maybe it will become a habit, especially for heart matters … The ones that really count. I mean it this time Lord, so help me Jesus.

Please hear my plea dear Jesus –

Your loving (and soon to be trusting) child, amen.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
