Don’t talk, no no! Don’t talk defeat to me, I’m a warrior and I’ve got the victory󾠔

Hello and howdy do to you. It’s a beautiful day to be alive, no matter our literal circumstances.

Here’s today’s nougat

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a son is given. And the government shall be upon HIS shoulders, and His name shall be called, Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, Everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9.6

So not only is this Child born to be a ruler (some are born great); but he’s also declared a Wonderful Counselor. Up until very recently, I’ve considered that role to be solely restricted to giving of advice. But what if the role of counsellor was politically motivated?

Here in Jamaica, the counsellor is one of the middle level leaders in a constituency, not a Member of Parliament, but one who works in the trenches, with people at the grassroots. Usually s/he also might serve as confidant, meeting people at the point of their needs; but with the underlying aim of boosting votes during the electoral season, and maintaining party visibility when they are already in power.

The Child as Wonderful Counselor could therefore refer to One who anticipates the needs of His constituents, meets those needs, AND assures employment in the government “Crash Programmes”, Christmas work or any other short term employment available for the unemployed. As Wonderful, this Counselor never fails in securing jobs and meeting needs. And just as our local party counsellors need “foot soldiers” to effectively fulfil their mission, so it is with THIS Child. Christ invites you and me to be part and parcel of the up and coming government. (Up and Coming because it’s not of this world or season). And, should we rise to the task, there’s no likelihood of failure – we’ve already got the victory – this is a government worthy of our vote (ie our dedicated service and our lives).

Wonderful Counselor – social or political – He’s the One for me.

Blessings.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
