“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24 NLT
I have a few friends whose primary role in my life is exactly that. They constantly are encouraging me to be my best self. When life happens and I am tempted to get snippy, I’m reminded by one of them to do right by God’s standards. Usually it has the effect of bringing me back to reality.
Motivation is about encouragement, not force. It seeks to unearth the best version of ourselves and invites us to become even better. Motivation is accompaniment not judgement. It’s not holier than thou as it recognizes that we’re on this journey together.
So here are the questions for us: are we making the time for appreciating those who constantly encourage us? If not, let’s not waste any time. Secondly, for whom are we motivators? Are we allowing our influence to bear positive effects on others? How so? If not, it’s not too late to start. And do we ensure that Jesus is part of the raison d’être in all we do?
May God’s grace be poured into us as we seek to live more visibly for Christ.
