Sometimes it’s hard to see how God will transform a stark situation. But we cannot afford to lose hope. Even in our grieving or anger. There’s more to the working together for good, because our God is in the details. Consider Today’s Holy Nougat for example.
“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” Romans 8:28-29 NLT
God Choose Them
Reading verse 29 and chewing on it takes me back to Job 1:8, where Satan is asked by Elohim ‘Have you noticed Job ?’ Of all the things that God would be expected to say to the enemy, that is not even near the list! Yet it seemed like it’s exactly what God did. Lest we missed, rather misunderstood, we note God placing restrictions on what/how far Satan can touch God’s anointed.
Now here we are, meditating on the fact that all things work together for good to the lovers of God in accordance with God’s plans; and we’re bound to recognize that our wasn’t a Job story. It’s possible to happen to any of us! Yes, God can choose to ‘brag on us’ resulting in situations that we least expect. Good and eventually good.
Why? Because God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son. Siblings, those ‘them’ referred to in the nougat are us. You and me! It’s not just ‘about our good looks’ (as in God’s mini-me), we’re here to reflect God’s glory. Our attitude is to reflect Jesus, not our own human nature.
Our task then is this: Praise God through our circumstance. Sometimes that looks more like devastation and persecution in our circumstances rather than laughter and sweetness and light. More importantly we encourage ourselves in the Lord.
