“As his body was taken away, the women from Galilee followed and saw the tomb where his body was placed. Then they went home and prepared spices and ointments to anoint his body. But by the time they were finished the Sabbath had begun, so they rested as required by the law.” Luke 23:55-56 NLT
He didn’t even benefit from proper burial preparations! His death was so sudden and unexpected. One minute He was up, and being lauded Saviour in front of everyone; the next He was cleansing the temple, then He was eating the Passover and the very next moment; He was arrested.
He moved from Triumph to Tomb in less than a week!
No one had anticipated that. Despite ALL the warnings Jesus had given. And despite the diligence and dedication of the ladies, the burial ointment was not ready for application to Jesus’ body.
Feel their disappointment.
See them being consoled by the reality of knowing where His body lay.
Hear their, ‘if only…’ of regret.
What disappointments do we live with today?
Is there any consolation that we hold
Do we have any regrets … if onlys?
May this be the day we examine them and simply sit with them – as we contemplate the enormity of the Second Passover.
