Do you have trouble remembering important spiritual information? Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“But the Helper, the Ruach ha-Kodesh whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything and remind you of everything that I said to you.” ‭‭John‬ ‭14:26‬ ‭TLV‬‬

Recently, I find myself forgetting little things from time to time, and it’s often an embarrassing thing. Especially since, prior to that I had a fairly clear memory. It’s ironic tho, I’ve never thought of crying out to God’s Spirit to rescue me in the moment. Because then I’d have an amazing testimony, living proof, that God’s Spirit does exactly what Jesus promised in the moment.

But, we do have a testimony about God’s Spirit. Remember your conversion story? About how you met and chose Jesus, and accepted Jesus invitation to ‘go steady’ with Jesus being in control? That’s thanks to God’s Spirit. And, if at all you ever chose to share the message of salvation with another person, it’s God’s Spirit Who facilitated that.

Ironically, despite being the Great Rememberer, there’s one thing that God’s Spirit loves to forget. You guessed it – our sins are forgiven when we call on the name of Jesus; and God’s Spirit prefers to forget about the confessed sins. That’s why the psalmist says we’re not treated like our sins deserve (Psalm 103:10-14) but takes our sins as far away from our lives as possible. Usually, we are the ones who struggle with forgetting sins; especially when they are committed ‘against us’. Perhaps we should take a leaf from God’s playbook.

But back to the remembering.

I have proven Jesus’ promise before tho. I remember asking for recall going into a situation and the Spirit of God coming through, granting favour and recall – and I wasn’t even going to preach! That was for an exam. But, I had and still have a testimony from that experience and I gave God credit for rescuing me. There’s also those preaching moments; where Jesus came through, reminding me of scriptures and, more importantly, helped me see the connection to the bigger picture of eternal salvation. And I guarantee you – most of us who preach know that that’s all God!

So what has the Father said to you that you need to recall?

Lord please help us remember Your Word, and apply it to our lives and the situations we’re in. Help us look to You when our minds lose focus, or we’ve lost our way. We offer ourselves to You and thank You for Your sustaining grace and supportive Spirit; in Jesus Christ, amen
