“Dear friend, I’m praying that all is well with you and that you enjoy good health in the same way that you prosper spiritually.” 3 John 1:2 CEB
I pray you well
How are you doing today? Are you well? This is a genuine question from me to you in a world that doesn’t always take the time to listen. We are often sidetracked by our own ‘stuff’, so busy with life and work and studying and fun that the little details get sidelined. I recall once hearing someone being advised, ‘… in this country when someone says ‘how are you’, they don’t really want an answer. It’s just a phrase.’ Imagine how crushed the hearer would be.
Another person was flummoxed to be pegged as a country person because of their being respectful. How do we advise such a person? For a simple response would have sufficed, no call for generalizations that seem almost offensive.
I guess the other question is, do you appreciate a warm greeting when you are down, and how do you feel when/if you are rendered invisible? I suspect that answer, as well as our cultural norms, would influence our desire to greet and genuinely inquire of another’s welfare. My proposal for us though, is a Jamaican proverb: ‘howdy an tenky no bruk no square’ (being mannered and ‘decent’ doesn’t cost). In fact, it might provide us with new insights and prayer points. We really have nothing to lose.
On this note, please bear Ann Marie in prayer as she wends her way through the Valley of Shadows – three close family members over six weeks. Ann Marie, we pray grace and coverage over you and your family, thankful for God’s healing blessings and strength for the journey.
For others going through, we pray God’s blessings and provision. I hope you are well and in the peak of health. Shalom
