I don’t know about you all, but this is my favorite time of the year. Not only because I celebrate life at those time, but also because Advent restores the pep in my heart, because of the Hope it brings. I am very conscious that it’s unlikely that Jesus was born on December 25; but my siblings, He was born. That He was born means He Will Come Again! This is a reminder I need every single day. It keeps me going in the busyness of life and keeps me grounded in this season. Join me on a journey of hope with today’s Holy Nougat™️

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭62‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Never Shaken

In chatting with my siblings recently, I realized that I am from a family of warrior women. My sisters and I, my mom and aunties, my great granny and my cousins are fighters. Some with our fists when provoked, many with the pen and the lips. And, in many instances we never fought alone: we are our sisters’ keepers. Yet, for all our fearsomeness, both individual and collective, our real strength lay in our faith in God.

And many of us have learned this early on. My grandmother for example, was not a typical warrior woman. Yet aided by her mother and strengthened by her God, Mama finished raising her 8 children when her husband died shortly after the birth of the baby. She prayed for them daily by name, expanding the list to include spouses and their children over time. ‘Puppa Jesus’ was her personal friend, in Whom she trusted and with Whom she spoke daily.

Her faith and Hope rested in the knowledge borne of weekly fasts, daily extended prayers and reading God’s Word, which was reflected in her lifestyle. Mama lived one of her favorite choruses ‘My God is so big, so strong and so mighty; there’s nothing that He cannot do!’ Regardless of what came her way, my granny looked to Jesus first, remaining anchored by the Hope she had in Christ. Her faith was palpable and infectious. It was a joy for her to know others knew her Puppa Jesus, and she kept them before God on her knees. She truly believed that we had to experience God for ourselves; for that’s what truly mattered.

It is no wonder that I learned to be dependent on God in all circumstances. I’m not yet as undaunted by Life’s Lifing as she was, but her life’s testimony to her Rock and Salvation continues to encourage me to trust God come what may.

You might not have met Mama, but you can be as intimately involved with her God. And, perhaps like me you will be infused with hope of God’s sure and timely intervention in all our lives. Most of all we have the opportunity through our remaining days to to experience the God of Hope as our Solid Rock through Jesus Christ our Lord.

May all we seek be found in Christ
