We continue to reflect on the ASK principle; by exploring Seek. Here’s today’s Holy Nougat
“If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” Jeremiah 29:13 NLT
In the old KJV, this verse reads something like, “You shall seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” That’s a whole lot of seeking! But what does it really mean to ‘seek’, especially if we are seeking God for our Ask?
Two biblical examples come readily to mind: the blind man (Bartimaeus) Who bomb-rushed Jesus for his healing when he heard Jesus was in his vicinity; and the woman who touched His cloak. Just think; what must it have taken a blind man to race towards Jesus (perhaps through the crowd which wasn’t necessarily accommodating him by leading him to Jesus); to ensure that his Ask was answered that is some serious and dedicated seeking my dears! And the woman broke convention; convicted and thus propelled by the notion – ‘if I but touch Him …’ What dedication it must have taken her anemic self to get through the crowd (unnoticed) and get close enough to touch Jesus!?
I am also reminded of the friends, who sought Jesus, not for their own sake but for another’s. For when all failed; rather than give up they risked life and limb to get to the roof where Jesus stayed. And from the roof; they captured Jesus’ attention and submitted their Ask.
Seeking God in the face of our needs is not always easy. Whether we take the woman’s approach to her coins; a shepherd’s dedicated search for the sheep or the relentless pursuit demonstrated by the man, woman or the four friends; seeking is not about giving up at the first sign of No.
Seeking is about diligence; perseverance; conviction and ongoing pursuit especially when the going is rough. Yes God provides for us (often to the point of being taken for granted); but sometimes God desires us to determine how much our Ask is worth to us. And perhaps to seriously consider why we Ask.
Even then; it is possible that our seeking may meet with God’s NO. However, when that happens, if we have been wholeheartedly seeking; we will find that it is the same relationship forged with God that keeps us.
