Upon arriving in Antioch, they called the church together and reported everything God had done through them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles, too. Acts of the Apostles 14:27 NLT
Accountability is a problem for many Christians today. Although we are open to judging others and determining where they have fallen short, we don’t always enjoy having to report on our actions.
The apostles Paul and Barnabas gave their report as a testimony to the church, encouragement even (remember Barnabas means “Son of Encouragement”) and it also served as a means of drumming up support for their ministry. Considering that the Gentile mission was an extremely new ministry phenomenon for the church; this was even more critical.
How accountable are we to our colleagues and co-laborers in ministry? Have we even accepted God’s call to ministry; and ascertained that regardless of our religious station, we are accountable to God for our actions?
What about when we are the recipients of God’s grace (charity), are we open to reporting same to others? May our lives be reflectors of Christ’s glory in all we do and say. And may our integrity shine forth through our willingness to be held accountable, no matter the circumstances or the crowd.
