It’s been a slow day. To keep yourself busy, you’ve begun to clean your nets. It’s a smelly and time-consuming process, albeit a necessary one.

You have a sense of expectation, perhaps even excitement, although you’re not sure why. Your brother Simon is with you and you’re slowly but surely making progress.

There’s a buzz, and you clearly hear a voice speaking to you. Come, Follow me. And I will teach you how to fish for people.

What causes you to arise from the shore and follow THAT man behind the voice? What moves you to drop everything in order to follow THAT man? Did you ever pause to consider your loss of livelihood, the fact that you were smelly, anything at all; or did you just Follow? Were you even aware that Elisha was called in the same way by the prophet Elijah?

And here you are, in this era; do you recognize THAT man calling you? Will you like countless others come and follow HIM wherever HE leads? Have you counted the cost? Do you realize that following HIM WILL cost you your everything? Are you willing to follow HIM regardless? Are you reachable? Teachable? Ready to be taught, to follow, rather than teach and lead?

Why do you respond to HIM? How will you respond to HIM?

Come, Follow me, said Jesus, and I will show you how to fish for people. Matthew 4.18
