Hello,

How are you? Yesterday’s reflection on the Isaiah 9.6 nougat sparked a question about power. Today offers one perspective …

Here’s today’s nougat

But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth. Acts 1.8

The prophet advised that rulership and eternal reign were part of the attributes of the Child who would transform the Jewish community. Centuries later, that Child passes some of His power to the Church (Matthew 16.18) and then to the Disciples gathered at his ascension. Acts 1.8 suggests that through the Holy Spirit, the final item passed on to us as our inheritance from Jesus is the power to do and be, as witnesses to Christ’s international reign.

So, we have not been given authority to rig the elections in any country, but the power we receive from the Holy Spirit affords us the ability to do ‘greater things’ in Jesus’s name. (John 14.12). But, we have to accept the authority given us which guides us in using this power. Of course, we also have to believe that we have this calling in Christ Jesus.

What are the stumbling blocks which get in the way of us walking with power and authority: are they fear, unbelief, no concern for those around us, laziness, or ignorance? Whatever the stumbling block, God’s got a way for us to go forward. Are we ready to walk into our inheritance?

In Christ’s love and grace
