Hi

Sometimes we hear some seemingly random and impossible thoughts in our minds. We suspect it’s God’s voice and we wonder what we are supposed to do or how we should respond. If so, consider today’s Holy Nougat, and if we confirm that it’s God speaking, then we have a decision to make.

“Then the Lord became angry with Moses. “All right,” he said. “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he speaks well. And look! He is on his way to meet you now. He will be delighted to see you. … Now the Lord had said to Aaron, “Go out into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So Aaron went and met Moses at the mountain of God, and he embraced him.” Exodus‬ ‭4:14, 27‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It may be niggling to hear God say ‘your brother Aaron, the Levite …’ However, we recall that Moses was raised part Egyptian, part Hebrew. His Egyptian mother may have had sons (some argue that the pharaoh who he would have confronted was his brother, so …) Plus Moses needed the assurance that he was not humanly alone. Not for that battle. His wife and children were with him; but they were strangers to the trauma and the danger he would confront.

Moses has been missing for forty years when Aaron gets that directive from God. Those were not the days of tracking devices or mobile phones, and even then, Moses would be a refugee under political asylum or a fugitive from justice. He was headlining on #PharaohsMostWanted and everyone knew it! There would have been zero contact with home.

Which bring us back to Aaron.

At this point, we only know that Aaron is Moses’s brother. We have not met him except by name. We have been told that Aaron is a Levite, but the priestly order has not been established yet. So we don’t know that Aaron has been hearing from God regularly.

Aaron was not The Star of the Exodus. He was at best, the Supporting Actor. However, when God said ‘get up and go’, he recognized God’s voice and got up and went. His journey to the wilderness began Before Moses actually knew he needed Aaron. Aaron heard God, and familiar with God’s voice or not, he hurriedly obeyed. And, having obeyed, he was reunited with Moses.

What improbable thing is God asking each of us to do/be right now? Are we offering objections (like Moses), or will we obey without delay? Our willingness to answer may save lives, including our own.

May God be glorified in our obedience

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
