Today’s Holy Nougat offers us a word of comfort, challenge and encouragement
“He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind; for he is not a human being, that he should change his mind.” 1 Samuel 15:29 NIV
Repeat out loud:
God does NOT Lie
God does NOT Change God’s mind
God is NOT one of us; for
God is WHOLLY Other
If God is Wholly Other; it means God does not operate in the way we do. We cannot Fathom the ways of God. It also means that to some extent we absolutely cannot wholly understand God’s Love This may be the opportunity to invite God to reveal God’s Love for us.
If God does NOT Change God’s mind, then the response to evil is NOT dulled. Saul’s decision required a response from God. And that’s what Samuel needed Saul to understand. But it’s also a word of encouragement for us. For if God remains constant, then God’s promises hold true for us.
For God does NOT Lie. And God’s Word is God’s bond. Psalm 138:2 assures us that more than God’s names (that describe God and God’s nature) God honors the promises God has made. One songwriter suggests that God’s promises (in Christ) are ‘yes’ and ‘amen’.
So whatever it is that we face at this time, whatever we think God cannot handle, whatever we think God has forgotten, whatever we think God is not doing anymore
