What do our actions teach about our faith? Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching.” ‭‭Titus‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Called to follow Jesus, there’s the additional invitation to evangelize. For that is the work of promoting, sharing information and resources with others. As a Jamaican, I have clear memories of billboard ads, some building on the jingles affiliated with their product. That those jingles still remain with us speaks to the potential impact of good promotion strategy. And it is also a reflection of the intentionality of the promoter.

As believers, there is the temptation and tendency to assume that promotion of God and God’s ‘product’ – salvation is the sole task of a preacher and a select few. I believe that this is a faulty premise. We are all called to share the good news of God’s salvation and reign wherever we are, using words where necessary. That’s what Paul encourages Titus.

And yes, it may be that like Paul, Titus will use words; but it’s a lifestyle that is being promoted. Not the royals, ex-royals, Kardashians or the latest and greatest talent in town. But a lifestyle that shows we’ve benefited from being discipled by Jesus, the Teacher par excellence.

If we consider the lessons Jesus taught, we will recall that they invited us to to live simply and simply live with each other. Like the ads of yesteryear, our ‘audience’ will remember what they saw and heard from us. Our task is to ensure that what they remember points to Christ. We can’t get more wholesome than Him.

So, based on our current lifestyle, how’s our marketing strategy?
