Here’s today’s Holy Nougat
“Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law.” Romans 13:8 NLT
Sounds so easy right. Until we consider the world in which we currently live. We live in a debtors’ society – where debt (once undesired), is a journey of Discovery of things once unattainable, granting us a Visa to even more debt and soon becomes the Master(card) of us. So indebtedness has become a good thing, except where it perhaps matters most – our relationships.
Now people have lost their intrinsic value and we move more and more towards disposable relationships. This has its merit (some relationships require one to literally run out of them as if one’s life depended on doing so); but do we truly try to expend love, or have we taken the act of ‘owing’ love to mean that we withhold from some people? Including the ones we claim to care about?
I find that we are way more inclined to take each other for granted than get caught in the act of offering loving kindness to others. Could this morning’s Nougat be an invitation for us to acquire a Visa for the Discovery of new (positive) ways that godly Love might Master the toxicity and selfishness which now presents itself as normative loving relationships – with self, others and with our God? Could it?
