Have you ever heard about justification? If so, great. If not, it’s on the menu in today’s Holy Nougat™
Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. Romans 3:24 NLT
In other words, it’s not by anything that we can or have done which eventuated in our being released from the consequences of our sins. No. It’s really about a Love that comes to us, right where we are, and restoring us, rather than wait for us to be cleaned up. For truly, justification is about us being out of enmity with God, and made right because of Christ. What a gift.
Unfortunately, we are sometimes fooled into thinking that A) we can earn our justification on our own merit, B) that only a very select group [of which we are members] are justified by grace, or C) that God has a hierarchy of sins, and some are/not forgiveable, thereby e establishing a big stuck approach to Christianity (i.e. God holds the threat of eternal damnation over our heads to elicit obedience). But today, e recognise that God has provided us an ‘out’ from condemnation through Christ Jesus.
If then, we are justified in Christ, there are two real time considerations upon which we ought to act:
1) That we are freely given this gift of grace from God … May we grasp it with our heart, soul and might
2) Since we are called by Christ to reflect God’s gift of grace, then we must do likewise. That is, ‘forgive our debtors as God’s grace has borne/forgiven our debt’.
May God’s grace continue to justify and inspire us through Christ Jesus.
