Nougat 28

Published on

Hi

Shortly before the lockdown, I noticed I had a crystallized pepper in the refrigerator. On a whim, I used a toothpick to poke some holes in it as I placed it on some soil I had from an emptyish flowerpot by the window. It didn’t matter sense but I kept watering the pot which also had 1 lonely, valiant sprig of a plant which died during my travels and an onion I really hoped would take root.

Nothing happened.

I got more seeds at the supermarket – all decorative, but they were free – so I began a garden with some soil and containers I had around. The following day; I kid you not, one pepper seed germinated. I am still excited, but am hoping that since I sowed several seeds I’ll get a few more seedlings.

It’s springtime in my neck of the woods as you might guess, and it’s definitely time to be sowing seeds. Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully.” 2 Corinthians 9:6 TLV

Of course we do both. We take considerable time and energy on some things and way less on others. So the real question for us is, are we sowing the right crops in the right quantities?

Are we sowing the fruits of the Spirit in large quantities? In which lives – our friends, family and colleagues; or those who earn it, or everyone? Remember Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Meekness, and Patience? Those fruits. I suspect they are as hard to find in this Covid-19, as alcohol and sanitizers. Yet, we may find that as we plant those seeds, and others such as hope and comfort, that we will enjoy the bounty of some of those precious fruits being gifted to us by others.

And likewise, if we sow fewer seeds of jealousy, strife, impatience, anger, doubt, fear, maliciousness, etc., we may be impacted less and less by those.

Of course, it takes time. So spiritual gardening is something we have to WANT to do.

We have to decide whether to allow the weeds to overtake our spirits and choke to death last season’s crop of beauty in our lives. And God’s Spirit already has the tools ready to help us. (A quick reminder, this may involve hoeing, weeding, dead heading things sown in our hearts – it’s likely to be tedious and painful!!)

So are we going gardening today and what fruits are we hoping to get back from our sowing?

God bless you. Good morning

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
