“When we invite the Holy Spirit, which is the spirit of Christ, to come into our lives, He takes up residence in our souls and abides in us.” – (Laynie Travis ‘Remain in Me’; Day 1). And, I might add, while abiding, God’s Spirit transforms us and others for God’s glory. Please receive today’s Holy Nougat

“He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

That’s a big bite; but a worthwhile bite, as it reminds us of the vast potential God desires to unleash in us all. Let’s continue to chew small bits however, as we savor the largesse of God’s Spirit.

One can easily be inclined to conflate the gift of Healing with Miracles as they can be considered close in nature. But, for those who marvelled at being full from a piece of fish and bread; those who found manna daily on a forty-year journey, or found money in a fish’s mouth; there is a difference. And by God’s Spirit we might be Called to make that difference.

Helps Word Studies qualifies ‘dynamis’ – as used in this context – in the following way: dýnamis (from 1410 /dýnamai, “able, having ability”) – properly, “ability to perform” (L-N); for the believer, power to achieve by applying the Lord’s inherent abilities. “Power through God’s ability” This suggests that most actions that demonstrate the length, breadth, and depth of God’s power can be considered miraculous. One songwriter puts it this way;

Do you anticipate the inevitable, supernatural, intervention of God? Do you expect a miracle?

What I like about that definition is it places the focus directly on God; even while affirming that it is definite and timely.

To be blessed with the spiritual gift of Miracles therefore means that we are the vessel through which God’s unavoidable, divine, powerful and necessary action connects with someone in need. While it may include healing; it can be so much more – someone appearing and diffusing a tense situation without being privy to the crisis. Or parting rivers for a nation to cross over. But above all, being available to God for God’s Spirit to transform the life of another.
