I don’t know if you have ever wondered what it means to be holy, have you? It sometimes seems so unattainable but as believers, it is who we are. Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™️ which offers some clarity for us.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭TLV‬‬

Holy: set apart; having like nature to God; sacred

Nation: ethnic group; race;

Isn’t it interesting that ethnicity is the term used to describe believers? Mark you, in those days the differences might not have been so obvious. Nevertheless Pentecost tells us a different story. As does the Acts of the Apostles. Remember the stories of the eunuch, missionary journeys to Asia Minor, and even Samaria – those were NOT one homogeneous ethnic group. In fact, several of the former disciples were scandalized to know that Gentiles were receiving the Spirit and manifesting the Gifts.

Accepting ‘those people’ was one thing; affirming their holiness was another. Yet they did. In fact, Peter says of them, [You] … have received a faith equal to ours through the righteousness of our God and Savior, Messiah Yeshua:” He had totally accepted those believers.

If Peter and the other disciples could be moved to accepting the non-Jews as ones carrying God’s DNA (ie God’s ethnicity), then it means that especially within the family of God, we ought to recognize that we carry the same DNA; we’re One in Christ.

And, knowing that our ethnicity is rooted IN Christ, we are intentional in living our ‘like nature to God‘. It’s part of our ethnic spiritual identity! Yes indeedy! We, who may have been *abased, abandoned, abused*, or even acknowledged and admired by the world; know for a fact that in Christ we are accepted, adored, appointed, anointed, adopted, and admitted as FULL-FLEDGED members of God’s family and it doesn’t matter what our past was. That’s in the past; and in the here and now, as God’s Chosen – even our DNA matches! So now we remember (know), what will we do?

May all we seek be found in Christ
