Nougat 28

I can still recall Mrs Grandison, my primary school principal, and the music teacher, Mrs Whittaker, taking us through the paces for Carol Service. And though I was only in the chorus section, Mary’s response to the angel Gabriel remains imprinted in my mind: ’I am the Lord’s servant, be it unto me according to Your will.’ This is a very profound statement, deserving some serious attention. Lots to contemplate as we consider Today’s Holy Nougat

According to Whose Will

With nothing more than an other-worldly visitator giving her a strange vision for the future, Mary said Yes to God. Having had her initial question to the angel answered, Mary’s next step was total obedience. She counted the cost, using God’s Will as the currency; and found it to be worth her while. No worries voiced about Joseph, her parents, the neighbors … she was open to the adventure God had in store for the world through her choice.

In those days, to be pregnant outside of marriage was frowned upon strongly. Accepting God’s call wasn’t presenting itself as an easy task. Unfortunately there would’ve been some disrespectful terms when Mary’s pregnancy was revealed. She might have heard them used about others in the community previously. Nevertheless she said yes to God.

Has God invited us to be partners in an impossibly insurmountable task? If so, what’s out response to the invitation? Are we busying ourselves with the wrong lens, placing our focus on the impossibility? It may be time for re-evaluating, and discerning whose will needs doing … on earth as in Heaven.

Or, having prayed and ‘left’ the prayer request in God’s care, do we recognize that it’s going to be answered ‘according to God’s will’? Did we stop to discern God’s will?

Finally, as we rise to face the new day, it is my prayer that we offer ourselves and our day to be programmed ‘according to God’s will’. Blessed day to you.
