He opened the Bible anxiously, half expecting that once again it would reveal nothing to speak to his thirsty heart.
Lord, his heart cried, just clarity on a few words even; and then perhaps it’ll be fine.
Seemingly out of nowhere, a man turned up, asking whether he knew what he read. He didn’t hesitate. Obviously this was God’s answer to his prayer. His status meant nothing until he knew for himself.
Then, having been baptised, his new status and increased understanding ushered the ambassador back to Ethiopia, where he shared in more detail the Good News.
She was hungry, thirsty, tired. But the chores waited on no one. Especially gathering water under the mid morning sun. As usual, she made the journey alone. But this time, despite the heat of the day; someone else sat by the well. Not just anyone. A Jew. She groaned inwardly, anticipating the arrogance of his silent judgement, his scorn even.
He spoke.
She responded. … Their conversation took a while. Despite the fact that they saw worship differently, what he said touched her heart.
Are you, nah, let me rephrase that. Have you, have you heard of the Jewish Messiah who is come to offer Living Water? She dared ask the stranger out loud.
His reply sent her heart soaring. Oh yes. Everything she heard ministered to her and propelled her to share the Good News with her people.
Seeing her transformation and hearing about her experience, they rushed to the Source of it all. It was the Messiah! They too believed.
For these people and so many others have experienced and went on to live the truth of today’s Holy Nougat
