Here’s today’s Holy Nougat.
Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16 NLT
While I wouldn’t dare to speak for James’s era; I can say that compliance with the first half of the nougat is not very easy. Perhaps because we have convinced ourselves that accountability is passe and unnecessary.
Perhaps it would prove helpful to consider two benefits of confession.
Firstly, one may be less inclined to indulge in behaviour which displeased God. Many of us would prefer others to perceive us in a positive manner. Confession may remove the option for embarrassment.
Then, there is the matter of the integrity of the confessional. Often, despite our hopes to the contrary, those to whom we would confess are loose lipped. Unfortunately that is more prevalent among Christians than it ought.
That being said; let us approach life’s challenges in such a manner tha there is little need for confession. As we move toward the Passion, may our actions honour Christ now and always.
