Some time ago, I applied for a position which I was certain I was wholly qualified for. The interviews involved a series of one-on-one meetings,a group interview and a Function Test. When the function test was done, I wanted to go back home.

Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”

In the function test, I was required to imagine myself in the position and respond accordingly. Could our seasons of foment have a similar purpose? What if this season of testing, this season of barrenness, this time in the wilderness is more about God ensuring that we are ready for our new life in the Land Promised us?
Rather than grumble and be perplexed (that was not restricted solely to the wandering Hebrew children), it would be helpful for us to recognize the core skills critical to life in the Promised Land. We often think of the Promised Land as the end of problems, challenges, fears … But the Faith lessons in the Wilderness would be just as critical (perhaps even more so) to them in the Promised Land. The ability to trust God who released the Hebrews from bondage, who went before them in the Wilderness and who provided Cordon Bleu fare had be Joshua and Caleb complete confidence that God was in full control.
What has the enemy tried to confound us with, such that we would desire to be once again in bondage?
Do we need to choose to leave Egypt so we might function in the realm of God’s Finale for this Wilderness season?
