Nougat 27

Hi

Sometimes we get discouraged by the repetitive nature of the temptations which ‘beset’ us. Today’s Holy Nougat reminds us that it is as eternal as time.

“Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.” 2 Corinthians 12:8NLT

Sometimes temptation is not quite easy to resist. It may be ingrained on our subconscious much like the cigarette cravings. In fact, some temptations are addictive. And the truth is every single one of us – bar none – has been subject to temptation.

Even Jesus

The bigger issue is our response. How do we overcome the urges, the overwhelming cravings, the withdrawal symptoms which often accompany the decision to withstand?

I think it begins with recognizing our humanity. And also that the real issue is spiritual. Hence our need to turn to God EVERY TIME the temptation comes. We might find an accountability partner; that may not stop us.

And sometimes we find we go to God multiple times for the same issue. That’s okay. Go again; for it may mean the temptation has moved to addiction status or that there’s more to the issue. Perhaps an underlying problem which needs resolving FIRST in order to get past the recurring temptation.

And while God can and does removes temptations from our lives in an instant, truth is, if there are root issues; it may truly be the repetition is there to help us grow. Yup. God does that too.

And when we fail to resist temptation – as we invariably do – we are reminded that Christ waits to intercede on our behalf. Especially when we are honest enough to confess.

Temptation – a sin problem with human elements. In Christ we can overcome.

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
