Hi
Have you been hearing from God lately? Are you needing a word from the Lord? Perhaps today’s Holy Nougat is for you
“I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts; I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.” Habakkuk 2:1 NIV
It’s not that God doesn’t care; but it is as if sometimes God desires that we press in for our blessings and breakthrough. The prophet Habakkuk had spoken to God and gotten an answer. But God’s response triggered another round of questions. And Habakkuk was prepared to wait for God to answer with all of his being. In one sense it would seem that he was doing nothing – he was just standing at his watch – but that’s exactly the thing; he was keeping watch.
He was not exactly giving an ultimatum to God, but he wanted to ensure that he didn’t miss God’s reply. In using metaphors of guardianship, Habakkuk conveys just how important hearing from God was. Nothing would get between him and his hearing from God! It was a matter of national interest
How do we respond when we don’t ‘get’ what God is doing or saying? Do we ask other questions or rephrase our question or ask God for clarification? Or have we placed God so high in the heavenlies that we think it sacrilegious to question God? I believe that our loving God looks forward to hearing from us; that God thrives on our hard questions; that sometimes God is quite okay with us pressing in for more. The greater question is; are we prepared to press in in prayer?
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
