Here’s your Holy Nougat™ for Today…
Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce;
So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, And thy vats shall overflow with new wine. Proverbs 3:9-10
Having considered giving to the Lord simply because, we also have the opportunity to explore the benefits.
The principle of firstfruits indicates giving of one’s best to the Lord (taken to the temple or dedicated by the priest), believing that god would provide the increase.
And, in most instances, this is the case.
- After leaving the soil fallow for a year, the Israelites gave the first and best yield to the Lord, and their harvests were bumper crops with enough for gleanings by the poor and needy
- Folks gave of their substance, and the Lord added the increase.
- Hannah dedicated her only child, a son, to the Lord … She had sons and daughters to follow.
- And ultimately, our best gifts to the Lord are given SELFLESSLY, as a LOVE response. God’s firstfruit gift, Jesus Christ, was offered in our place and offers redemption even today.
We cannot outgive God. Simple.
But, don’t take my word or the nougat as proof. Try God for yourself. Sacrifice a gift to the Lord, something tangible. Something of worth. Give it to the Lord, whether at church or as directed to the needy. Make certain you pray about it (ensure that the gift is pleasing to God, and not spring cleaning). Then begin to count the blessings which follow. Great and small.
I guarantee it. No, the Lord GUARANTEES it.
