Nougat 27

Last night, while at a Bible Study session, a good sister-friend of mine noted some Four points in Moses’ call. My immediate response was, ‘You know that those will be focal points for the nougats, right?’ We laughed, but I felt the need to share with us. Please receive today’s Holy Nougat

“Then the Lord told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own fertile and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey—the land where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites now live.” Exodus‬ ‭3:7-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Moses’s attention had been arrested by the strange bush that burned but was not consumed. Having drawn closer, his curiosity placed him at the cusp of the most momentous, exciting, spiritual and challenging season of his life! It was a transformational encounter with God! For, without much preamble, God got straight to the point. (Hence the Four points of our focus over the next few days).

God’s desire was to offer the Children of Israel a new life. After 400+ years of displacement and suffering, a new day dawned, in arable land just like that which had been at their disposal in Egypt.

Now, I cannot and will not even try to explain why the promise hinged on land that was already occupied, but to say take that up with God on your next talk. I will however note that this was most likely the Land of Promise that took Abram away from his father’s home years before, to which Jacob returned after time under Laban’s rule.

During last night‘a study we noted that Moses was likely to have been told about Elohim, God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob by his birth family. We further considered that he may have understood his purpose to deliver the Children of Israel, but not having established a personal relationship with Elohim, Moses’ initial plan failed and he was on the run. From pharaoh. From his purpose. From God.

For why else would a highly skilled person be content to speed so many years (some experts say 40) simply tending sheep away from the world on the back side of a wilderness?

Interestingly, the Four points that then propelled Moses into Purpose were NOT initiated by him. For, not only does chapter 2:23-25 tell us that it was the Children of Israel’s cry that reached up to Elohim, but God-Elohim-YHWH tells Moses that the encounter was about God’s intervention on behalf of the Children of Israel.

And that is the lesson we begin with prior to unpacking the Four points of divine transformation. Our purpose is linked to a community that is greater than ourselves. Indeed God calls us for us, but God’s call on our lives benefits others also. And even when/if we’re skylarking, even when we relocate ourselves to the back side of the wilderness; God’s purpose for us will not fade; especially when the saints are praying.
