Greetings
How’s the journey going? Isn’t it great that our faith is a journey and not a destination? For it means we can experience a ‘do over’ when needed. If (make that when) we mess up, there’s room to declare, “Forgive me Lord”. That’s amazing. We also get to make declarations like today’s Holy Nougat, live it and experience the fullness of it. So have you made the declaration?
“O Lord, I give my life to you.” Psalms 25:1 NLT
Talk about a LOADED statement! Eight simple words containing a recognition of sovereignty and pledge of allegiance. If this is truly a Davidic psalm, one might surmise that this may have been the plea of a shepherd turned king, seeking divine guidance for leading a theocracy as a monarchy during a season of difficulty. And, in effect, that IS what each of us does when we make a personal commitment to faith in our Triune God. We recognize God’s sovereignty over the mightiest political leader, whether Queen Elizabeth (who celebrated a birthday recently), Kim Jong-un (current leader of N Korea), Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, Abu Bakr-al-Bagdadi or even Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan (president of the UAE) our supervisors or even taxes. When we take God as our Lord, we’re investing our lives, our souls actually, in a system of living which has super-natural dimensions.
In lifting our souls or giving our lives to God, we acknowledge that henceforth, even when we don’t ‘get’ what God is doing, we will still obey. And that’s the rub. For yielding to God’s Purpose is not always as easy as it sounds. Are we truly prepared to follow God’s lead? To give ourselves over to God body, mind and soul? Even when God’s ways contradicts the desires of our hearts?
If yes, expect a wonderful roller coaster adventure in faith. If no, be careful what we say to the Lord. We might find that we have volunteered to have our lives transformed for God’s glory. I pray strength for the journey and joy through it all!
