Hello

When last have you been threatened by Goliath? A problem so insurmountable that you know better than to tackle? Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“Don’t worry about this Philistine,” David told Saul. “I’ll go fight him!”

1 Samuel 17:32 NLT

It was incongruous! Preposterous! Outrageous! Hilarious. Downright ridiculous!

David, an untrained shepherd seeking to overthrow a 9-foot GIANT! Saul, the handsome king who was head and shoulders above his contemporaries; and an accomplished (and decorated) military hero, knew better than to take on Goliath! The odds were NOT in David’s favour!

No one would have been surprised to discover Goliath was descended from the Nephilim. For only those people seemed to have such an imposing height. (see Genesis 6:1-4 for more details.) And, if that were the case, then there was even more reason to fear the outcome. For he had spiritual backative!

But David knew he had God on his side. That’s not just regular spiritual backup; that’s THE Captain of ALL angelic hosts, Who created the angels who’d be representing Goliath. Armed with THAT knowledge; and placing his bets on The One Who is able to keep us from falling, David insisted that he represent his people.

Aside from the obvious leadership lesson l(ead by example; don’t ask those who follow to take on what we’re unwilling/ afraid to do), there’s a profound lesson for each of us, especially in the outworking of our faith walk.

When life’s insurmountable challenges come – and they most certainly will – we ought to look beyond and dare to accomplish the incongruous, preposterous, outrageous, ridiculous and downright hilarious in Christ’s power. Not only do we introduce the element of surprise, but we also tell our souls and our challenges Where and in Whom we choose to place our faith.
