Nougat 26

 Hi

There is a saying in Jamaica that used to be spoken with painful regularity in situations of disappointment.

‘A promise is a comfort to a fool.’ It implied that life would not disappoint so easily if hope doesn’t flow so readily. And, it’s somewhat true; except that it also teaches that one’s word doesn’t matter. It also teaches that no one (including God I presume) is to be trusted.

However, today’s Holy Nougat invites us to think differently …

“So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17 NRSV

Faith, older sister to hope, requires that we ‘hear’ God’s promises as articulated in the Bible. The Bible provides us with proof of promises made and promises fulfilled by God on our behalf. Some to rescue us, some to guide us, some to protect us all with the ‘hope’ of building and strengthening relationships with us.

Those ought to count for something to the cynics and skeptics among us. There’s also personal experiences – often from persons we know – about how God built/strengthened their faith through the personal touch. And, although we often focus on the negatives in acts of self-preservation, we can (most of us) recall times when God rescued us from despair by fulfilling a personal promise.

So, when disappointments try to overwhelm us, let’s delve in the Word. We listen for the message embedded just for us, remind ourselves of the fulfilled promises and extend our faith.

FAITH … Forsaking All I Trust Him (God) … can we extend it today?

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
