Hi

‘Would you be loved and give love?’ Bob Marley asks a profound question that invites our consideration as we ponder today’s Holy Nougat

“He escorts me to the banquet hall; it’s obvious how much he loves me.”

Song of Songs 2:4 NLT

The picture of a banquet hall in my mind is a public event; great food; great fellowship; great company. It is a semi-formal affair; not necessarily in the night and it’s by invitation only. Not necessarily a Page 2 event; nevertheless one goes to see and be seen. How we dress and who we are with matter. And our escort in this instance matters; for we are showered with love; visible to everyone.

Friends let us not sell ourselves short. This is what True Love ought to look like. Lavishing on us; taking us to safe and public places where we will be nourished; demonstrating love for us in life-enhancing ways.

Of course, all this assumes that we love ourselves and thus are able to recognize and appreciate true love when it is reciprocated. Loving God and our neighbor depend on us loving ourselves. Appreciating true love is easier when we love ourselves and recognize that we are worthy of the best expressions of love. Oh yes. And responding to loving overtures is better when we love who we are.

There is also the notion that the Lover being referenced is God. Can you imagine God not only loving you; but also providing such amazing escort service? Demonstrating love for us publicly; regardless of the past – indiscretions, mistakes, fears, arrogance and successes. That’s awesome

And even more reason to love us for who we are!

May we each bask in the love of God, Self and others which energizes rather than diminishes.

Love ya

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
